Norfolk State's Joe Bryant Jr. Wins MEAC Player of the Year Award

Bryant becomes first player in program history to receive the honor

Norfolk State guard Joe Bryant Jr. has been named the 2022-23 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Year.

Bryant, a 24-year-old senior from Virginia Beach, Virginia, led the Spartans to a 20-11 record and the No. 2 seed in the MEAC Tournament. He averaged 16.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game while shooting 43.8% from the field and 36.7% from three-point range.

Bryant was a key contributor to Norfolk State's success this season. He was named MEAC Player of the Week three times, and he helped the Spartans win their first MEAC regular-season championship since 2012.

Bryant is the first Norfolk State player to win the MEAC Player of the Year award since 2005. He is also the first player in program history to be named a first-team All-MEAC selection three times.

Bryant will look to lead Norfolk State to its first MEAC Tournament championship since 2012 when the Spartans face No. 3 seed Howard in the semifinals on Thursday.
