Canada invests $60M in powering a cleaner future in Northern BC, Yukon

Funding will support three clean energy projects

The Government of Canada is investing $60 million in three clean energy projects in northern British Columbia and Yukon. This investment will help reduce emissions, create jobs, and build a cleaner future for these regions.

The funding announced today includes:

  • $20 million for the Northwest BC Bioenergy Project, which will convert sawmill waste into renewable natural gas.
  • $20 million for the Yukon Biomass Energy Project, which will convert wood waste into renewable electricity.
  • $20 million for the Northern BC Clean Energy Hub, which will develop and deploy renewable energy projects in northern British Columbia.

These projects are expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 100,000 tonnes per year, which is equivalent to taking 25,000 cars off the road.

The funding is part of the Government of Canada's $1.5 billion Clean Energy Fund, which is investing in projects that will help Canada achieve its climate change goals.

The Government of Canada is committed to working with provinces, territories, and Indigenous communities to build a cleaner future for all Canadians.
