President Cyril Ramaphosa will lead a South African delegation to the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA79) in New York from 19 to 26 September 2023.

Ramaphosa will address the General Debate on 23 September and participate in a number of high-level meetings and side events during his visit to New York.

The theme of UNGA79 is "A watershed moment: transformative solutions to interlocking challenges." The Assembly will discuss a range of issues, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the climate crisis, and the conflict in Ukraine.

Ramaphosa is expected to use his address to the General Debate to call for global solidarity and cooperation in addressing these challenges. He will also highlight South Africa's commitment to multilateralism and the United Nations.

In addition to his address to the General Debate, Ramaphosa will participate in a number of other high-level meetings and side events during his visit to New York.

These include the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Summit, the Climate Action Summit, and the High-Level Meeting on Financing for Development.

Ramaphosa will also hold bilateral meetings with a number of world leaders, including United States President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, and United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.

South Africa's participation in UNGA79 is an important opportunity to engage with the international community on a range of global issues. Ramaphosa's address to the General Debate will provide a platform for South Africa to share its perspectives on these issues and to call for global cooperation in addressing them.
